These are samples of the three requests sent to the public bodies.

President spending 

Pursuant to the state open records law Mich. Comp. Laws Secs. 15.231 to 15.246, I write to request access to and a copy of Central Michigan University President’s discretionary spending from 2014-2015 fiscal year.

I request to obtain records of all of the following within the above timeframe:

University gifts or paraphernalia purchased for university guests
Records involving gifts received Records documenting travel expenses
Mileage reimbursement and allotments
Any records related to vehicle purchase, maintenance or equipment
Any records relating to residence operations
Any university reimbursed credit card statements
Any records related to events, activities, or programs held at residence
Any additional records containing information pertaining to university reimbursements or discretionary spending

I request all copies to be electronic. I also request every response be sent to hines1as@cmich.edu and spjcmu@gmail.com. If your agency does not maintain these public records, please let me know who does and include the proper custodian’s name and address.

Please provide a receipt indicating the charges for each document. I ask all costs be waived because this information is valuable to the public.

As provided by the open records law, I will expect your response within five (5) business days. See Mich. Comp. Laws Sec. 15.235(5)(2).

If you choose to deny this request, please provide a written explanation for the denial including a reference to the specific statutory exemption(s) upon which you rely. Also, please provide all segregable portions of otherwise exempt material.

I would note that arbitrary and capricious violation of the open records law can result in punitive damages of up to $500 and the award of reasonable attorney fees, costs and disbursements. See Mich. Comp. Laws Sec. 15.240(10)(6-7).

Board of Trustee expenses 

Pursuant to the state open records law Mich. Comp. Laws Secs. 15.231 to 15.246, I write to request access to and a copy of public records that contain information detailing all of  Central Michigan University Board of Trustees expenses for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.

I request to obtain records of all of the following within the above timeframe:
travel expenses/reimbursements
meal expenses/reimbursements
food and beverage expenses/reimbursements
hotel expenses/reimbursements
equipment expenses/reimbursements
any other miscellaneous expenses/reimbursements

I request all copies to be electronic. I also request every response be sent to hines1as@cmich.edu and spjcmu@gmail.com.

Sexual Assault Police Incident Reports

Pursuant to the state open records law Mich. Comp. Laws Secs. 15.231 to 15.246, I write to request access to and a copy of police incident reports for any form of sexual assault from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.

I request all copies to be electronic. I also request every response be sent to hines1as@cmich.edu and spjcmu@gmail.com.
